Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist?

Physiotherapists focus on diagnosing and treating injuries or conditions that affect movement and function, often using hands-on techniques. Whereas Exercise physiologists specialise in using exercise to prevent or manage conditions and improve physical performance, particularly after the acute phase of the recovery.

Do I need a referral?

No, you don’t need a referral for private appointments. However, a referral may be required if you are claiming through Medicare, WorkCover, DVA, or other third-party funding.

Are your services covered by Medicare?

Yes, if you have a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for a limited number of sessions.

What will my initial consultation involve?

Your initial consultation will begin with a thorough discussion of your medical history, current symptoms or concerns, and any relevant goals you may have (e.g., pain relief, improved mobility, injury recovery, or performance enhancement).

Your practitioner will then conduct a physical assessment, which may include testing your strength, flexibility, movement patterns, posture, or cardiovascular fitness—depending on whether you’re seeing a physiotherapist or an exercise physiologist.

Based on this assessment, they’ll explain your diagnosis or findings, outline a personalised treatment or exercise plan, and answer any questions you may have. You may also receive hands-on treatment or start exercises during this first session.

What conditions can physiotherapists treat?

Physios treat a wide range of musculoskeletal issues including back and neck pain, sports injuries, arthritis, post-surgical rehab, and more.

What age groups do you treat?

We treat clients of all ages, from children and adolescents to older adults.

What conditions can exercise physiologists help with?

They can assist with diabetes, heart disease, obesity, arthritis, osteoporosis, mental health, cancer recovery, neurological conditions, and injury rehabilitation.
